The Festival of Choirs USA® is a choir competition event being held on August 16, 2014. This will be our sixth year and we all are going to celebrate and have a great time!!!! The location for the event is 807 Skinner Creek Road, Port Allegany, PA, 16743. The Festival is a free event open to the public.
The Festival is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for: Promoting public awareness of the need to reestablish and reinvigorate the choirs that were once in small town churches.
We are not a non-profit organization. Funding comes from private donations, free will offerings and our food sales. Some of our items are the chocolate chip cookies and pecan caramel popcorn that you got to try.
Churches that have been established for more than three years, view the Bible as authoritative and would like to enter the Festival’s competition will need to register with the Festival of Choirs USA. The registration time period will begin on June 1, 2014 and end on August 1, 2014. A registration fee of $50 will be charged to all participating churches and the fee will be returned back to them once they have competed in the Festival. The fee is meant for accountability purposes. Refunds of the registration fee are also available to a registered church if they can’t attend until the registration deadline which is August 1, 2014. After that date, if a church does not compete in the Festival event they will forfeit their entrance fee.
The churches have two ways to register:
1. Online. Go to www.festivalofchoirsusa.com and click on the “Register” tab at the top of the home page. Fill out the information and then mail a check to the Festival’s address:
Festival of Choirs USA, 807 Skinner Creek Road, Port Allegany, Pa. 16743
2. By mail. Mail the churches information with a check to the above Festival’s address.
Upon receiving the churches registration and song choice, the committee will respond within a week to let them know if their song selection has been accepted. If it hasn’t the church is able to submit another song. We do this so we do not end up with different choirs singing the same song twice. The church will also receive a copy of a song that will be sung at the finale by all of the registered churches in a combined choir. The winners of the different categories will be announced and awarded on the last day of the Festival. The last four years the Festival has been blessed to be able to give $500.00 to each separate category winner. The award amount could vary each year. The award is suggested and encouraged to be used for the choirs and their expenses.
Participating church choirs and worship teams from around the region that have registered will be divided into groups according to their size. Group sizes will be 7-11, 12-16, 17-21, 22 plus. These numbers are comprised of the choir members from the church that are actually singing. We also welcome churches that have larger group sizes. Each church will have a minimum of 1 soprano, 1 alto, 1 tenor and 1 bass in their choir. We will have an electronic piano and sound system at the Festival for the Choir’s use. The churches can pick a song choice between a traditional church hymn or contemporary Christian. Song choice must be submitted with the church’s registration by August 1, 2014. The Choirs will be judged on:
1. Stage presence
3. Blending of voices
4. Overall performance
Please ask your congregation to make time to come out and support the churches that have registered. Be blessed and have a great day,
Jerry J. Goochee
